Plane Crash at Whiteman Airport

A fuel leak was contained Tuesday morning after a small plane crashed at Whiteman Airport in Pacoima, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The pilot of the Cessna was extricated from the plane and received medical attention. Details about possible injuries were not immediately available.

About five gallons of fuel spilled from the plane but was contained, and the plane did not catch fire. Whiteman Airport is a general aviation airport that has been the subject of safety concerns in the nearby community.

Safety Concerns and Future of Whiteman Airport

In 2024, LA County started a study to determine whether Whiteman Airport, located near a densely populated neighborhood, should close and what might replace it. That study is expected to wrap up later this year.
