Maine Senate Nominee Faces Scrutiny

Graham Platner, the Democratic Senate nominee from Maine, is facing intense scrutiny over his past posts on the online platform Reddit. A recent report uncovered a post from Platner’s old Reddit handle, ‘P-Hustle,’ where he appeared to mock a teenage girl’s suicide attempt. The post was made in response to a 2012 story about a young girl who tried to jump from a window after her cousin died.

Controversial Posts

Platner’s Reddit activity has been a focus of his campaign, with many of his posts sparking outrage and criticism. In one post, he called rural White Americans ‘racist and stupid.’ He also made comments promoting political violence and blaming victims of rape. Additionally, Platner praised a video of Hamas terrorists shooting at Israeli soldiers and wrote that ‘an armed working class is a requirement for economic justice.’

Many Republicans and conservatives have spoken out against Platner’s posts, including Maine State House Minority Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham, Maine Republican Party Executive Director Jason Savage, and former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer. Fleischer stated that Platner’s posts show ‘deep and disturbing psychological issues’ and that his comments on the teenage girl’s suicide attempt are ‘the worst’ of all his controversies.

Response to Criticism

Platner has attempted to distance himself from his past comments, saying he was ‘just messing around on the internet’ when he made them. However, many critics argue that his posts reveal a disturbing pattern of behavior and raise questions about his fitness for public office.
