Casper City Council Considers $196.4M Budget

The Casper City Council will hold a public hearing to consider a $196.4 million budget for the 2027 fiscal year at its Tuesday meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. at Casper City Hall, 200 N. David St.

Budget Breakdown

The citywide expenditure authority for the upcoming year is set at $196,404,486 in total. A significant portion of the budget is directed toward personnel, with $68.2 million allocated, or about 34.7%. Additionally, the city plans to allocate approximately $33.3 million toward capital investments, representing nearly 17% of the total budget.

In addition to setting the budget for the coming fiscal year, the City Council will also vote to maintain the city’s historical property tax levy of eight mills for the upcoming fiscal year. According to Casper Financial Services Director Jill Johnson, financial projections for FY27 estimate the levy will generate approximately $4.9 million in revenue.

Other Business

Councilors will also vote on possibly removing restrictions against owning domesticated fowl in city limits after tabling the matter at a prior meeting. The amendment to the city’s ordinances follows requests from several citizens who approached Metro Animal Services seeking permission to keep non-game quail and similar birds for egg production.

The councilors will also consider a $690,064 agreement with a local company to replace aging rooftop heating and cooling units at the Casper Recreation Center. Another piece of infrastructure improvement that councilors will look to move forward with is upgrades to the pedestrian pathways and lighting at the Ford Wyoming Center.
