Apple Unveils New AI-Powered Siri

Apple has revealed its plan to catch up in the artificial intelligence race by reintroducing an improved version of its digital assistant, Siri, and adding features to its AI system, Apple Intelligence.

Enhanced Capabilities

The new assistant, called Siri AI, will be able to handle tasks like researching concert tickets and brainstorming recipes for a party. Apple’s executives demonstrated the new assistant’s capabilities during a presentation at the company’s annual conference for software developers.

Apple emphasized that it had developed its AI with privacy in mind, with much of the computer processing required to answer questions happening on iPhones and other devices themselves, rather than in data centers where personal information could be compromised.

Integration Across Apps

The company said it would integrate Siri and Apple Intelligence across its apps, allowing users to ask Siri questions about what they’re photographing in the Camera app, for example. Apple also demonstrated AI features such as monitoring webpages for updates in Safari and altering a photo by removing distractions from the background.

Apple will impose daily limits on how often people can use a feature that generates images using AI, with the option to use the feature more by paying for a subscription to Apple’s cloud computing system, iCloud.

The company also plans to update the operating systems for its devices this fall, allowing people to open apps faster and search through content on their devices more comprehensively. Additionally, Apple will add a series of child safety features to its devices, enabling parents to control their children’s access to apps and websites.
