A Palm Coast mother, Courtney Price, defended her family when an intruder, Michael McDonald, entered her home uninvited and pushed toward her children. Price, a single mother, was home with two of her kids when the incident occurred on Big Bear Lane.
Incident Details
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, McDonald went around the home, banged on a window, and eventually found a way inside. Price said McDonald was a friend of hers, and the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding about money that escalated. Price repeatedly told McDonald to leave and warned him she would shoot, but he refused to leave.
Price, who had owned a gun for six or seven months for her protection, shot McDonald when he pushed toward one of her children and appeared to be going to fight her 16-year-old son, Jamari. McDonald was later found at a hospital where he went for treatment for a gunshot to the arm and is now facing a burglary with assault or battery charge.
The sheriff’s office said Price is not facing any charges, citing Florida’s stand your ground law. Chief Deputy Joe Barile stated, ‘If you’re going to force yourself into someone’s house and be aggressive, be prepared to get shot.’ Price said the situation could have ended much worse, but she was able to protect her family.
