AJ Ewing, a 21-year-old Springboro High School graduate, returned to Cincinnati Monday night to play at Great American Ballpark as the New York Mets faced the Reds. Ewing, who was called up to the majors just one month ago, had the chance to play in front of family and friends who drove in from Warren County to support him.
Ewing’s Impact
The 2020-2023 Springboro High School alumnus is already making an impact for his team. On Sunday, Ewing hit a solo home run against the Atlanta Braves, marking his second homer in 31 games. He has also recorded seven stolen bases this season.
On Monday, some little leaguers warming up on the Springboro football field shared their excitement about Ewing’s major league debut, though they admitted they were torn on who to root for.
At GABP, Ewing tossed a game ball to his high school coaches’ sons, who were his bat boys at Springboro and were with him when he was drafted.
AJ sees us, he throws the ball towards us, and I thought it landed in some teenager’s hand, but it was actually my dad who caught it, and he gave the ball to us, said Cooper Schmitt.
Ewing hit fifth in the Mets lineup Monday night.
