Natrona County Firefighters Quell Two Wildfires

Natrona County firefighters responded to a pair of fires over the past two days, with no injuries or property damage reported in either. Today, emergency personnel were dispatched to a grass fire in the Chalk Creek area shortly after 1 p.m.

Natrona County Fire District Captain Ryan Grigg said several buildings were threatened by the flames, but responders were able to avoid any damage to the nearby properties and no one was injured in the incident. The fire was quashed at roughly 1.5 acres.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and under investigation, Grigg said. On Sunday, a fire broke out near Bar Nunn that he said was caused by heavy machinery sparking and igniting nearby brush.

The fire, located near Palomino Avenue, grew to about 3.6 acres before being fully extinguished. Responding to both fires were the NCFD, the Mills Fire Department and the Bar Nunn Fire Department, Grigg said.

“It’s important to be aware of the weather and the type of fuel you’re in, and the type of machinery you’re using, especially around this time of year,” he said.
