Feeling overwhelmed and stressed can be a common experience in today’s fast-paced world. Psychotherapist Niro Feliciano suggests that taking a moment to intentionally reset your body and mind can be beneficial. One way to do this is by slowing down physically, such as taking a few intentionally slow, deep breaths or practicing tai chi-inspired movements.
Resetting Your Nervous System
Feliciano explains that when we’re in overworked mode, our body produces excess adrenaline, which can make us feel restless and uncomfortable even when we’re trying to rest. To combat this, she recommends incorporating slowing down into your daily routine, such as during transition periods like when you first get home from work or when you notice anxiety picking up. This can be as simple as taking 30 seconds to soak up the moment and appreciate where you are.
By practicing mindfulness and slowing down intentionally, we can begin to reset our nervous system and feel the effects within just one minute. This can have a significant impact on our emotional and mental health, allowing us to better navigate stressful moments and appreciate the quieter ones.
