Retired Marshal Leaves Legacy of Faith

Kevin Woods, a retired Fort Worth marshal, has left a lasting legacy of faith and generosity at City Hall. Over his 32-year career, Woods saw every day as an opportunity to help others and share joy, motives he said were fueled by his Christian faith.

A Life of Service

Woods’ generosity manifested in practical ways, such as helping people pay their rent or ensuring that someone he had arrested wouldn’t have their car towed. He also started an ‘adopt a family for Christmas’ program within the marshals’ division, inspiring officers to buy Christmas presents for families in need.

Before his career in law enforcement, Woods applied for a position in the police or fire department but was directed to the marshal’s division due to a twisted ankle. He quickly made his way up the ranks, all while holding part-time jobs in security and shift work. Woods also attended a seminary on the side to pursue a role in Christian ministry, which he viewed as God’s ultimate calling.

Woods didn’t separate his ministerial pursuits from his day job as a marshal; rather, he saw them as working hand in hand. He believed that God gave him the job as a marshal to minister and help people, and he did more to help than hurt. Woods’ faith changed how he saw the people he arrested, not as criminals, but as ‘people who were down on their luck.’ He often shared his faith with those he arrested and prayed for them if they asked.

A Legacy of Faith and Generosity

On one of Woods’ final days with the city, he received a standing ovation from staff and council members, recognizing his time serving Fort Worth. Council member Jeanette Martinez praised Woods, saying, ‘At City Hall, Deputy Marshal Kevin Woods was a constant source of security and warmth. He’s known for his strength, integrity, and generosity.’

Woods was hesitant to talk about his service to others, not wanting to take credit for what he sees as God’s blessing in his life, enabling him to bless others. He continues to give back to the communities he spent his career protecting, inspiring others with his legacy of faith and generosity.
