Malibu ‘Serial Squatter’ Featured in Docuseries

A British actress and screenwriter, Ellie Mae McNulty, has been accused of being a ‘serial squatter’ in Malibu, taking advantage of California’s tenant-friendly rental laws to occupy homes without permission. McNulty’s actions have been featured in a new Hulu docuseries, ‘Squatters: Get the F*** Out of My House,’ which highlights her alleged squatting spree in the area.

Alleged Squatting Incidents

One of McNulty’s alleged victims, Alden Marin, an artist and stage IV cancer patient, allowed her to stay in his home in 2021. However, McNulty allegedly overstayed her welcome, using Marin’s credit cards, changing the locks, and clogging the pipes by flushing cloth napkins down the toilet. She also allegedly demanded $20,000 to leave the property.

McNulty has disputed Marin’s account, claiming that he had the locks changed while her possessions were still inside the residence. Marin ultimately took McNulty to court in 2022, and a judge ordered her to vacate the property.

McNulty’s alleged past victims include an 80-something Santa Monica widow, a yoga teacher, and others who claim she used California’s tenant protections to drag out her stays. Her actions have raised concerns about the state’s laws, which can make it difficult for homeowners to remove unwanted houseguests.
