The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Evan Carter on the 10-day injured list due to a right oblique strain. Carter exited Friday’s game against the Boston Red Sox because of the injury.
In a corresponding move, the Rangers recalled utility man Cody Freeman from Triple-A Round Rock. Freeman has experience playing multiple positions, including left field, right field, second base, and third base.
Carter had recorded six home runs, 21 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases for the Rangers this season, with a .172/.292/.321 batting line. His defensive skills in center field have been notable, with Baseball Savant ranking him in the 94th percentile in Fielding Run Value.
The Rangers also made other roster moves, recalling right-hander Joe Ross from Triple-A Round Rock and optioning right-hander Luis Curvelo to the same affiliate. Right-hander Michel Otanez was designated for assignment.
