The Pony, a new art bar and restaurant hybrid, is set to open in Denton in mid-July. Co-owner Jessica Madsen described the space as a unique concept that combines pizza, pottery, cocktails, and live music.
The Concept
The Pony will feature authentic pizza made with fresh, Italian-style ingredients, hand-cut by co-owner Owen Madsen, who is from Rome. The cocktail menu will be expansive, and desserts will be brought in from Ivan’s Treats. The venue will also offer small-scale pottery classes and handmade jewelry and artwork from local artists for sale.
The Pony will have a mix of hyperlocal, regional, and national talent performing live music on weekends. The venue’s director of entertainment, Dorian Marsh, said they already have several months of acts lined up. Marsh is a musician, and The Pony is named after his lucky guitar.
Local Inspiration
The concept of The Pony came together during a trip to West Texas, where the co-owners visited the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and a bar/pottery shop concept in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They were inspired by the Southwestern-style artwork and the idea of combining art and entertainment in one space.
The Pony will be located at 314 E. Hickory St., Ste. 121, in Denton. The grand opening event will be posted on The Pony’s social media.
