A Florida-based nonprofit, Running 4 Heroes, will host a running event in Christian County this Sunday, June 14, to honor fallen deputies Michael Hislope and Gabriel Ramirez. The event will take place at the gazebo on the northwest corner of the Ozark square at 10 a.m.
Honoring the Fallen Deputies
Hislope and Ramirez were both graduates of Ozark High School and U.S. Army veterans. Ramirez was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Feb. 23, and Hislope was shot and killed while law enforcement attempted to apprehend the suspect hours later. The community is invited to join in the run or cheer from the sidelines.
At the end of each run, the runner will speak on the fallen deputies, then lead prayer and a moment of silence for both Hislope and Ramirez. Flags will be folded and presented to a member of each deputy’s family at the end of the event.
Sheriff Brad Cole said the nonprofit reached out to Christian County a couple of months ago. “It means a lot to us that somebody would put on an event like this and honor the deputies (we lost),” he said.
