Sunland Park Addresses Wastewater Spillage

The City of Sunland Park has announced that there is no more wastewater spillage in the Anapra area after a community meeting was held. City Manager Mario Juarez-Infante stated that the city is constructing a new stormwater drainage system in the area to help with flooding, which is expected to be completed by late August.

Construction and Flooding Issues

According to Juarez-Infante, phase one of the construction is currently underway, with the storm drains about 80% complete. The city is expecting a heavy El Niño season and wants to get ahead of potential problems in the area. A 5-year bi-national plan is also in place to help with potential flooding from Mexico into the United States.

Juarez-Infante mentioned that the growth in Anapra, Mexico, is causing unregulated sewer systems to overflow, resulting in wastewater spillage into the surface and combining with stormwater. The city has photos and drone evidence of the overflowing sewer systems.
