Florida Trooper Rescues Teen From Interstate Overpass

Around 8:30 p.m. on June 2, multiple callers alerted authorities about a female walking along the 54th Avenue bridge in St. Petersburg, Florida. Witnesses told dispatchers the teenager was attempting to jump directly into the heavy stream of cars on Interstate 275 below.

An FHP trooper was the first responder to reach the scene. The trooper spotted the girl right away and gave verbal commands telling her to stop. When the teen ignored those commands, the trooper stepped in and physically pulled her away from the edge to keep her out of harm’s way.

Authorities later identified the girl as a 16-year-old resident of Largo. Following the rescue, troopers initiated care to help with her recovery.
