Three World War II veterans have returned to South Florida after a poignant trip to Normandy, France, where they revisited the sites of their historic D-Day battles. The veterans, accompanied by the Best Defense Foundation, spent time reflecting on their experiences and honoring their fellow soldiers who fought alongside them.
A Emotional Homecoming
Upon their return to Palm Beach International Airport, the veterans were greeted with cheers, applause, and waving American flags by friends, family, and strangers who had gathered to welcome them home. The warm reception was a testament to the community’s appreciation for their service and sacrifice.
The trip to Normandy was an emotional journey for the veterans, who shared their stories and memories of the war. One veteran, Harold Terens, expressed the depth of his emotions, saying, ‘I don’t think there are enough words in the English language that could describe all the emotion.’ Another veteran, Edward Sandy, reflected on his experience, saying, ‘I want to go visit Omaha Beach where I was during the operation. And it was very touching to me to see everything the way it was.’ Robert Crecco, a fellow veteran, also shared his experience, saying, ‘It was a revelation, especially two days ago. I saw the exact area where I was wounded.’
The veterans’ trip was made possible by the Best Defense Foundation, which has organized similar trips for veterans to visit historic sites over the past five years. The foundation’s efforts have provided a unique opportunity for veterans to reconnect with their past and share their stories with others.
