Reflecting Pool Renovations Marred by Algae

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which recently underwent $14.2 million in renovations, has been found to have residual algae in the water. The Trump administration had promoted the project as a success, with the president himself bragging about the renovations in public remarks.

Renovation Details

The Interior Department invested in a state-of-the-art ozone nanobubbler filtration system to keep the pool algae-free. However, a day after the pool was filled, algae was visible from the water’s edge. A worker was spotted clearing the algae from the bottom of the pool.

An Interior Department spokesperson stated that the algae is a normal part of the startup process and will be removed. The spokesperson also credited President Trump with making Washington, DC, look ‘better than ever’ due to the renovations.

Public Reaction

Residents and tourists had mixed reviews of the renovations, with some praising the ‘American flag blue’ paint on the bottom of the pool. Others criticized the administration for spending money on unnecessary upkeep and not doing more to help the homeless.
