Savannah Guthrie Balances Work Amid Mother’s Disappearance

Savannah Guthrie, co-host of the TODAY show, recently opened up about the emotional challenge of returning to work following the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. In a heartfelt conversation with Jenna Bush Hager, Savannah shared how she has been coping with this difficult time.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in Arizona on January 31, and authorities suspect an abduction. Despite the ongoing anguish, Savannah returned to her role on TODAY on April 6. She expressed gratitude for the support from her colleagues and the show’s crew, noting that the two hours she spends on air provide a welcome distraction.

“It’s really hard to come back,” Savannah said tearfully. “I’ve been trying so hard to hold it together, and I promise I will.” She emphasized that while the work brings her joy, the situation is far from easy.

Faith and Family Support

Savannah highlighted the importance of her faith and the support of her TODAY family during this time. She mentioned a Bible verse that has given her strength: “You’ll walk and not grow faint.” This passage, she said, reflects her current journey of trying to maintain strength and resilience.

Jenna Bush Hager, who shared the emotional moment with Savannah, expressed her admiration for her friend’s strength and resilience. “I just marvel, as somebody who knows you, at your strength,” Jenna said. “You coming back here and leading the ship, which I know has not been easy — and yet here you are.”

The Guthrie family is offering a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s return, and the FBI has added a $100,000 reward, urging anyone with information to come forward.

Savannah also spoke about the importance of showing her children that it’s possible to balance sorrow with happiness. “We can hold our sadness, and we can hold our joy, and if you don’t believe it, just watch me,” she said.

As Savannah continues to navigate this challenging time, she remains grateful for the support and prayers from her colleagues and the public.
