In a heartbreaking incident, 17-year-old Jariah Edwards from Arizona was shot and killed during a visit to San Diego, California. The tragedy unfolded on May 30, when Edwards, who was approximately 32 weeks pregnant, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head outside a vacation rental on Gardena Avenue. Despite doctors’ efforts to save her unborn child through an emergency C-section, the newborn suffered a severe brain injury and passed away a week later.
Suspect in Custody
San Diego Police quickly apprehended Edwards’ ex-boyfriend, Trevon Williams, shortly after the incident. Williams, who traveled separately from Arizona using a rideshare service, allegedly lured Edwards outside by pretending to deliver flowers before opening fire. He was found hiding in a nearby canyon and is now facing charges including first-degree murder and possession of a machine gun. Williams is being held without bail, and it remains unclear if he has legal representation.
History of Violence
Prosecutors have highlighted a troubling history of alleged violence between Williams and Edwards. Court documents reveal that Edwards had intended to file a restraining order against Williams, and a close friend described the control he allegedly exerted over her during her pregnancy. Audio recordings presented in court captured Williams admitting to the shooting, further solidifying the case against him.
The San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate the case and urges anyone with information to come forward. Williams is scheduled for a review hearing on June 12.
