Spurs Fans Encouraged to Donate Blood for Limited-Edition Cap During NBA Finals

As the San Antonio Spurs face off against the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals, local fans have a unique opportunity to support both their team and their community. The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is offering a limited-edition Spurs cap to those who donate blood at any San Antonio donor center on game days. This initiative not only boosts team spirit but also addresses the ongoing need for blood donations in the region.

How to Participate

To receive the exclusive Spurs cap, donors must schedule an appointment using the promo code “FINALS.” Appointments can be made online through the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center’s website or by calling 833-YOU-GIVE (833-968-4483). Donors are reminded to bring a valid photo ID when they arrive for their appointment.

Critical Need for Blood Donations

The need for blood donations remains constant, with every donation potentially helping two or more patients. Blood transfusions occur every two seconds in the United States, highlighting the critical demand for donors. The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center is particularly emphasizing the need for Type O blood, especially O-positive, which is the most common blood type in the region. Approximately 40% of the population has O-positive blood, and about half of the Hispanic community shares this blood type, making these donations crucial for local hospitals.

Type O blood is often used in emergency situations and is one of the most requested blood types by hospitals. By participating in this blood drive, Spurs fans can make a significant impact on their community while cheering on their team during the NBA Finals.
