Electric Vehicle Explosion in Winthrop Causes Fire, Damages Two Homes

An electric vehicle parked in a driveway on River Road in Winthrop, Massachusetts, exploded on Sunday afternoon, sparking a significant fire that engulfed two homes. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from firefighters from Winthrop and neighboring cities such as Chelsea, Revere, and Boston.

Two individuals, one of whom is a pregnant woman, were transported to the hospital following the explosion. Fortunately, both are expected to make a full recovery, according to local firefighters.

A teenager residing in one of the affected homes expressed her concerns about the impact of the fire on her family and neighbors. ‘Our windows just completely melted and burned inside of our house,’ she shared with NBC10 Boston. ‘In my room, I have so many memories made. I don’t know what it looks like in there, but I know it’s definitely bad. I’m very, very scared and not only just for me, but for my family and everyone else who lives in these two buildings.’

As the community grapples with the aftermath, an investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway. Further details have yet to be released.
