Miles Robinson Ready for Redemption at 2026 World Cup

American soccer player Miles Robinson is preparing for a significant moment in his career as he joins the US Men’s National Team (USMNT) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This opportunity comes after a heartbreaking injury in 2022 that prevented him from participating in the World Cup held in Qatar. Robinson, who was a standout player for Atlanta United at the time, suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, sidelining him from the tournament.

Now 29 years old, Robinson is ready to take the global stage, representing his country in a tournament that will be hosted in the United States for the first time since 1994. “We’ve got great players, a great staff, so this summer we’re going to prove a lot of things,” Robinson shared in an interview.

New Leadership and Renewed Hope

The USMNT is under the guidance of head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who took the helm in 2024. Pochettino personally informed Robinson of his selection for the team, a moment the defender described as surreal. Robinson, now playing for FC Cincinnati, has been a consistent presence in the national team, earning 40 caps and scoring three goals since his debut in 2019.

Robinson’s journey has been marked by memorable moments, including his decisive goal in the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup final against Mexico. His resilience and determination to overcome his injury have been crucial in his return to the national team.

A Homecoming on the World Stage

Playing on home soil is a dream come true for the Massachusetts-born player. “The fact that this World Cup is in the United States is a perfect opportunity for the world to come together,” Robinson stated. He emphasized the significance of representing not just the team but the entire nation and the young fans who look up to them.

The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams competing across three countries, making it the largest edition in the tournament’s history. Robinson and his teammates are set to face Paraguay in their opening match in Inglewood, California. The team is motivated by the support of friends, family, and fans, with Robinson noting, “I kind of get chills thinking about it, recognizing that almost everyone you’ve ever met your entire life is wanting you to succeed.”

With a blend of new and seasoned players, the USMNT is hopeful for a strong performance in the tournament. Robinson expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “It’s one game at a time, but I have high hopes and a lot of faith in this group.”
