Golden Tempo Triumphs at Belmont Stakes, Marking a Memorable Year for Vincent Viola

In a year filled with notable achievements, Vincent Viola, chairman and owner of the Florida Panthers, celebrated another victory as his horse, Golden Tempo, clinched the 158th Belmont Stakes. The race took place at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York, where Golden Tempo, with 6-1 odds, made a stunning comeback from the back of the nine-horse field to secure the win.

Golden Tempo’s triumph at the Belmont Stakes earned its owners, including Viola and Daisy Phipps Pulito of Phipps Stable, a winning share of $1.2 million. This victory follows Golden Tempo’s earlier success at the Kentucky Derby, where the horse defied 23-1 odds to win the first race of the Triple Crown.

Despite skipping the Preakness Stakes, the second race of the Triple Crown, Golden Tempo’s performance in the Belmont Stakes was a testament to the strategic decisions made by its owners and trainer, Cherie DeVaux. DeVaux, who became the first woman to train a Kentucky Derby winner with Golden Tempo’s victory, now joins the ranks of women who have trained Belmont Stakes winners, following Jena Antonucci’s 2023 win with Arcangelo.

Viola dedicated this significant win to his late friend Dominic DiPrisco, who passed away recently at the age of 70. In a heartfelt tribute, Viola expressed his gratitude and love, saying, “I know you’re in heaven, and I love you, and this race is for you.” Viola’s St. Elias Stable co-owns Golden Tempo, marking another milestone in his successful ventures in the sporting world.

Jockey Jose Ortiz, who rode Golden Tempo to victory in both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes, played a crucial role in the horse’s remarkable performances. The win at the Belmont Stakes not only highlights Golden Tempo’s prowess but also underscores the collaborative efforts of its dedicated team.
