The incident occurred on June 5, when hospital staff notified law enforcement that a child had arrived at Winter Haven Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right leg.

Investigators revealed that the child was left in Felippe’s care at his father’s home while the father was out running errands. During an interview with detectives, the child explained that he found a gun and accidentally shot himself while Felippe was in the shower. Felippe then transported the child to the hospital.
Authorities discovered a firearm matching the caliber of the bullet in the child’s leg at the residence. Additionally, a digital scale and drug paraphernalia were found in a bedroom occupied solely by Felippe. The child’s father stated that he did not recognize the handgun found in the home.
