In a heartening display of community support, the San Antonio Food Bank partnered with the Boeing Center at Tech Port to distribute fresh food to 600 families in need. The drive-thru event, held at the Boeing Center, offered a variety of essential items including fresh produce, meats, dairy products, and pantry staples.
Yolanda Agueros, one of the recipients, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Very, very thankful. We’re blessed. Everything is getting so expensive, and I only have one paycheck a month, so this helps a lot.”
This event marked the fourth and final distribution funded by a generous $100,000 grant from Boeing, aimed at combating food insecurity in the area. Richard Delgado, a senior community investor at Boeing, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting the high population density in the surrounding area codes.
Community Support Amid Rising Costs
With schools out for the summer, many families are seeking additional resources to provide meals for their children. Marisa Cisneros, a mother of five, attended the distribution for the first time, acknowledging the financial strain of feeding her family. “It’s a lot, and then food is expensive right now,” she said. “I’m grateful for the help that they give out here.”
The event was organized to ensure a smooth and efficient process for families. Volunteers guided participants through a series of stations where they collected meats, fresh produce, pantry items like grape juice and tuna, and dairy products. According to Delgado, the food provided could last families for a couple of weeks.
For those unable to attend, the San Antonio Food Bank continues to offer resources and assistance throughout the community. Residents can find additional food distribution sites by entering their ZIP code on the food bank’s website.
