A dramatic incident unfolded in Edgewater, Volusia County, when a car crashed into the lobby of a Little Caesars Pizza on S. Ridgewood Avenue. The crash, captured on surveillance video, left the business heavily damaged but, thankfully, no employees or customers were injured.
Close Call for Employees
Jimmie Wood, an employee present during the crash on May 26, initially thought an earthquake had struck. “I thought the whole building collapsed,” Wood said. Another employee, Marlana Walters, initially believed the oven had exploded before realizing it was a car. Walters narrowly avoided being hit, coming within eight seconds of the vehicle’s path. “I’m shocked. I’m thankful that I have somebody watching over me,” she expressed.
Business Impact and Recovery
The crash caused significant damage to the lobby, with the front doors now boarded up. Franchisee Bonnie Johnson described the situation as devastating, with repair costs estimated to exceed $100,000. Despite the extensive damage, the business only closed for a day and a half, continuing to serve customers through its drive-up window. “This is how they support their family, their children,” Johnson emphasized, highlighting the importance of keeping the business operational for the employees.
Investigation Ongoing
The Edgewater Police Department has been contacted to determine the cause of the crash and the condition of the driver, but no response was available at the time of reporting. The community remains supportive as the business works to recover and repair the damage.
