Space Needle Transforms into Soccer Ball for FIFA World Cup 2026 in Seattle

Seattle’s iconic Space Needle has been transformed into a massive soccer ball, a striking visual symbol as the city prepares to host matches during the FIFA World Cup 2026. This transformation is part of Seattle’s efforts to welcome international fans and highlight its status as one of the tournament’s host cities.

A Unique Visual Display

The redesign of the Space Needle’s roof was unveiled by Seattle FIFA World Cup 26 officials and the Space Needle team. The concept was developed to create a visual display unlike anything visitors have seen before in Seattle. The project was a collaboration between the Space Needle and SeattleFWC26, with the Seattle-based Long Painting Company executing the work 605 feet above Seattle Center.

Peter Tomozawa, CEO of SeattleFWC26, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “With just days until the world arrives in Seattle, this activation captures the energy building across our region.” The project required meticulous planning, specialized equipment, and coordination with Space Needle staff to ensure safety and monitor weather conditions during the installation.

World Cup Celebrations in Seattle

The modified roof is expected to be a focal point of Seattle’s World Cup celebrations. The city is set to host six matches during the tournament, which is anticipated to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the region and attract billions of viewers worldwide. Seattle is one of 16 cities across North America selected to host matches in what officials describe as the largest tournament in FIFA World Cup history.
