Skyland Boulevard Set for Road Improvements Starting June 8

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is set to begin significant road improvements on Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa starting Monday, June 8. This project will focus on resurfacing US-11/Skyland Boulevard from US-82/McFarland Boulevard to Pleasant Hill Drive, with work scheduled to take place during overnight hours to minimize daytime traffic disruptions.

Planned Improvements

In addition to resurfacing, ALDOT has announced plans to extend the left-turn lanes at key intersections along Skyland Boulevard, including Cypress Creek Avenue, Palisades Drive, and Hargrove Road. These enhancements are designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, making commutes smoother for local residents and visitors alike.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by fall 2026. To accommodate the community and avoid major disruptions, lane closures will not be allowed between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., nor on Saturdays when the University of Alabama has a home game scheduled.

ALDOT recently completed similar upgrades on a different section of Skyland Boulevard, between SR 69 and McFarland Boulevard, showcasing their ongoing commitment to improving local infrastructure.
