Istanbul Grill, a cherished dining spot located in Houston’s Rice Village, has announced it will be closing its doors on July 18. The restaurant, known for its traditional Turkish cuisine, has been a staple in the community for nearly three decades.
Owner Zubeyir Dundar confirmed the closure, citing ‘lease circumstances beyond our control’ as the reason for the decision. Despite the impending closure, Dundar expressed gratitude for the support from the community over the years. ‘We have been with Rice Village for 20 years. I’m so happy that I have had a big family and customers for so many years. They have kept us hopeful,’ he said.
In a heartfelt statement on their website, the Dundar family shared their appreciation for the patrons who have visited the restaurant over the years. ‘It has been our absolute pleasure to serve you, to celebrate joys, share sorrows and watch families grow in this space,’ they wrote. ‘Every guest, every visit has shaped who we are and what this restaurant has become. The community we’ve built together means more to us than words can express.’
A Legacy of Turkish Cuisine
Since opening in 1998, Istanbul Grill has offered a variety of traditional Turkish dishes, including tabbouleh, gyro kabab, falafel plates, and lamb chops. The restaurant has been one of the oldest in the area, serving as a culinary landmark for both locals and visitors.
Until its closure, Istanbul Grill will continue to offer full services, including dine-in and take-out options. However, starting in early July, the restaurant will operate with a limited menu. The Dundar family encourages patrons to visit and enjoy their favorite dishes before the final day of service.
Located at 5613 Morningside Dr., Houston, Istanbul Grill has been more than just a restaurant; it has been a gathering place for families and friends, a venue for celebrations, and a part of the community’s fabric. The closure marks the end of an era for the Dundar family and their loyal customers.
