POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Around 12:15 p.m. Thursday, drivers on U.S. 92 were forced to slam on their brakes when 43‑year‑old Galina Ginene Golden stepped directly into the flow of traffic. The sudden obstruction threatened a massive semi‑truck and several passenger vehicles.
Deputy intervenes to protect motorists
Polk County sheriff’s deputy, observing the dangerous situation, activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and pulled over. He entered the roadway to clear the lane and address the woman. Golden warned the officer, “Do not ****** touch me!” and refused to provide identification, stating, “I am not going to talk to you.” She then turned and began walking down the pavement.
When the deputy moved to prevent her from leaving the roadway, Golden seized the officer, squeezing him tightly and wrestling to break free. The confrontation was brief but intense. The deputy was able to subdue Golden, place her in handcuffs, and transport her to the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center.
Charges filed
Golden was booked on felony charges of battery on a law‑enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence, as well as a misdemeanor count of resisting without violence. The sheriff’s office noted that Golden has a history of prior arrests, including burglary of a dwelling, petit theft, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, domestic battery, domestic assault, and battery on a person over 65.
Deputy’s actions praised
County officials commended the deputy for his quick thinking and decisive action, which prevented a potentially serious traffic collision and protected the safety of motorists on a busy highway. The incident underscores the importance of law‑enforcement presence on Florida’s roadways, especially during peak travel times.
Residents are reminded that obstructing traffic is a criminal offense and can endanger lives. Law‑enforcement officers are trained to respond swiftly to such threats, ensuring that public safety remains the top priority.
What’s next for the suspect
Golden will remain in custody pending a court hearing. The felony charges carry significant penalties, and the prior record may influence sentencing. The sheriff’s office continues to monitor the case and will provide updates as it progresses.
Polk County law‑enforcement agencies encourage the public to report any suspicious activity or roadway obstructions to help keep the community safe.
