Harrison Township is rolling out a new Veterans Parkway Banner Program that gives families a visible way to honor the men and women who served our nation. Applications open on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and will remain available until March 1 or until all 160 banner slots are filled.
How the program works
Each approved banner will feature a photograph of the veteran, along with their name, rank and branch of service. The banners will be installed along North Dixie Drive – known locally as Veterans Parkway – beginning on Memorial Day 2027. They will stay in place through Veterans Day in both 2027 and 2028, providing a year‑long tribute each summer.
Eligibility and sponsorship
Both living and deceased veterans who meet Harrison Township residency requirements are eligible. A $100 sponsorship covers the cost of production, installation and ongoing maintenance of each banner. Because the program is limited to 160 banners, the township will allocate spots on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
Community impact
Township officials say the banner program reinforces the community’s commitment to honoring its veterans while also creating a visual reminder of their sacrifice for all who travel the parkway. “Our veterans have protected the freedoms we cherish,” a township spokesperson said. “This program lets families display that gratitude in a way that’s both personal and public.”
Residents who wish to apply can find the online application form on the township’s website. The form asks for basic veteran information, a high‑resolution photo and proof of residency. Once approved, the township’s public works crew will handle installation and ensure the banners are maintained throughout the display period.
Looking ahead
The township hopes the program will become an annual tradition, expanding the number of banners if demand exceeds the initial 160 slots. Officials also plan to coordinate with local schools and veteran service organizations to promote the program and encourage community participation.
