Middleton’s beloved Author Palooza is back this weekend, expanding to accommodate a growing crowd of readers and writers. The event runs Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Middleton Community Center on Main Street, and admission is free.
More than 60 authors on the roster
Organizers expect over 60 authors to appear, a significant jump from the 42 who participated last year and the roughly 18‑20 at the inaugural 2022 gathering. The larger lineup reflects the festival’s rapid growth since its modest beginnings at the Middleton Trolley Station.
Visitors can meet writers across a wide range of genres, including fantasy, romance, thrillers, crime, mystery, historical fiction, memoirs, young adult, and children’s literature. Among the participants is middle‑grade fantasy author Amy Marin Rice, whose Fuzzwigs series features magical portals and fantastical creatures inspired by Idaho’s landscape. Another author will showcase small‑town romance novels set in Idaho communities, offering both sweet and spicier editions.
Family‑focused activities and vendors
Beyond author signings, the festival offers seven vendors selling book‑themed merchandise such as tumblers, Kindle accessories, and custom‑sprayed book edges. MJ Artistry will provide flash tattoos and piercings, while a food truck and drink vendor will keep attendees refreshed. The Cheeky Library mobile book trailer adds a mobile reading nook to the festivities.
Kids can enjoy a special dragon‑themed obstacle course inspired by the popular series Fourth Wing. Young participants navigate a straw‑bale challenge and then discover which miniature dragon “chooses” them. Stickers and other small giveaways are available for younger children.
A “book passport” activity encourages attendees to visit authors from different genres, collect stamps, and enter a drawing for a chance to win one of several book bundles, with additional items donated by vendors.
Community impact
Organizers say the event provides a valuable opportunity for readers to connect directly with authors, discover independent writers, and find new books to enjoy. Interest remains high, with a waiting list of authors hoping to join future festivals. The move to the larger Middleton Community Center reflects the community’s enthusiasm and the event’s role in promoting literacy and local culture.
Author Palooza is a reminder of Middleton’s vibrant literary scene and its commitment to family‑friendly, faith‑centered community events that celebrate reading, creativity, and togetherness.
