Louisiana’s Hottest Junes on Record Since 1895

Louisiana has been experiencing some of its hottest Junes on record, with data compiled by the National Centers for Environmental Information highlighting the trend. The rankings are based on the highest average temperatures recorded in each month since 1895. This local data provides insight into the broader climate patterns affecting the state and the nation.

Top 10 Hottest Junes in Louisiana

According to the data, June 2011 tops the list with an average temperature of 83.8°F, followed by June 2010 at 83.5°F. These records are part of a larger trend of rising temperatures observed across the United States, with the continental U.S. experiencing its third hottest July in 2022 since 1895.

Other notable years include June 1998, June 1953, and June 1914, all of which saw average temperatures exceeding 83°F. The data also shows that June 2022 was among the top 10 hottest Junes, with an average temperature of 82.7°F.

This trend of increasing temperatures is attributed to climate change, which has been driving global temperatures upward since the late 19th century. The Earth’s temperature has increased by about 2 degrees Fahrenheit since 1880, with each decade seeing a rise of approximately 0.14 degrees Fahrenheit.

Understanding these local temperature changes is crucial for communities as they adapt to the impacts of climate change. It also underscores the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices to mitigate further temperature increases.
