Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced a manhunt for Joshua Mauri after a violent home invasion in DeLand escalated into a dangerous pursuit. The incident began around 7:30 p.m. Thursday when deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an intruder at a local residence.
Home invasion and threats
According to investigators, the woman inside the home took shelter with her children in a bedroom as Mauri forced his way inside. He seized the woman’s phone, destroyed it, and threatened further harm to her and the children.
Attempted escape and vehicle collision
After the confrontation, Mauri fled the scene in a black Porsche SUV. While leaving, he nearly struck a deputy who had arrived at the house. The deputy briefly pursued the vehicle before returning to check on the family after the 911 call went silent.
Second encounter and ramming
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Friday, deputies spotted Mauri again in the area. When they attempted to approach, he backed his SUV into a patrol vehicle and then sped away. The suspect’s vehicle careened through a yard, smashed a fence, and continued onto State Road 44 before crossing into Lake County.
Charges filed
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says Mauri faces multiple charges, including domestic assault, robbery by sudden snatching, deprivation of 911 services, aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated battery on a law‑enforcement officer, and criminal mischief. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Mauri’s whereabouts to call 911 immediately.
Public safety reminder
Deputies emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activity and responding promptly to emergency calls. The ongoing investigation underscores the department’s commitment to protecting families and maintaining safety throughout Volusia County.
