LINDALE, Texas – The City of Lindale is inviting families and animal lovers to a free adoption and microchipping event on Saturday, Nov. 7. The City of Lindale Adoption & Microchip Event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 501 Blackberry Blvd., offering a chance to bring home a new canine companion and ensure pets are safely identified.
Adoptable dogs and no‑fee adoption
Smith County Animal Shelter coordinator Holli Jones says the shelter will bring mostly small to medium‑sized dogs, plus a few puppies, to the event. While the shelter does not have cats available this time, the focus is on matching local families with dogs that fit their lifestyle.
Jones notes that Smith County currently does not charge an adoption fee. In addition, the shelter covers spaying or neutering and rabies vaccinations for any animal adopted from the shelter, removing financial barriers for new pet owners.
Free microchipping provided by students
Tyler Junior College veterinary technology students will perform microchipping at the event, and the service is completely free. A microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, can be scanned by veterinarians or animal shelters to reunite a lost dog with its owner quickly and safely.
“Even if you’re not wanting to adopt, please come out and love on them,” Jones said. “Pet them.” She encourages anyone who loves animals to visit, whether they are ready to adopt or simply want to support the shelter’s mission.
Community partnership strengthens local animal welfare
The collaboration between the City of Lindale, Smith County Adoption Center, and Tyler Junior College highlights a shared commitment to responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. By offering both adoption and microchipping in one convenient location, the event reduces the steps families must take to bring a pet home safely.
Local residents are urged to spread the word, bring friends, and consider adding a dog to their household. The event provides a family‑friendly environment where children can learn about caring for pets, and adults can ask questions about the adoption process, veterinary care, and the benefits of microchipping.
How to participate
Anyone interested in adopting or having a pet microchipped should arrive early, as space may fill quickly. No registration is required; simply show up at 501 Blackberry Blvd. between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
