The Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce announced that Wendy Laros will assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer on Jan. 1. The decision was disclosed in a press release on Friday and marks a new chapter for the for‑profit organization that champions local business interests, including tourism, throughout Shasta County.
Local roots and extensive chamber experience
Laros grew up in Redding before moving to Hawaiʻi, where she spent the past nine years as president and CEO of the Kona‑Kohala Chamber of Commerce. Her résumé also includes more than 25 years at a diving‑gear rental company in Kona, a Master of Education from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa, and ongoing graduate work toward a Master’s in business at Pennsylvania State University.
Board endorsement
“Wendy brings proven chamber leadership, a business‑owner’s perspective, and a deep personal connection to Redding,” said Rob Lowes, chair of the Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. The board’s endorsement underscores the chamber’s commitment to seasoned leadership that understands both the local market and broader economic trends.
Transition from Todd Jones
Laros succeeds Todd Jones, who joined the chamber in 2024 and stepped down last month to become interim dean of Economic and Workforce Development at Shasta College. During his tenure, Jones helped establish the chamber’s Government Affairs Committee, a body that advocates for business interests during local elections and provides candidate endorsements.
Continuing collaboration with regional leaders
In her new role, Laros will work alongside other prominent development figures in the region, including Rebecca Baer, president and CEO of the nonprofit Shasta Economic Development Corporation. Together, they aim to strengthen the business climate, attract investment, and support workforce development initiatives that benefit families throughout the area.
What this means for the community
The appointment signals stability and forward momentum for Redding’s business community. With Laros’s blend of local ties and chamber expertise, the organization is positioned to continue its advocacy for pro‑business policies, foster tourism growth, and provide resources that help local entrepreneurs thrive.
