As Veterans Day approaches, the American Legion Auxiliary Tum Tum Unit 168 in Amboy is rallying the community to honor the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The group emphasizes gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans and encourages residents to pause and reflect on the freedoms secured by their service.
Upcoming events in Amboy
On Saturday, Nov. 7, the North Clark Historical Museum and Mt. Valley Grange will host the 39th Annual Community Celebration Honoring Our Veterans at Mt. Valley Grange No. 79, located at 40107 NE 221st Ave., Amboy. The festivities begin with pie and ice cream at 1 p.m., followed by a program at 2 p.m. Rick Halle, commander of American Legion Tum Tum Post 168, will address the crowd, and members of Post 168 will present the colors.
Veterans Day itself, Wednesday, Nov. 11, features the Lough Legacy Veterans Parade at 11 a.m. on the grounds of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. After the parade, the Community Military Appreciation Committee will hold an open house at Pearson Air Museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a chance for residents to meet veterans and learn about local support programs.
Year‑round support for veterans
Founded in 1919, the American Legion Auxiliary serves veterans, active‑duty service members, their families, and the broader community through volunteer service, remembrance poppies, youth programs, and more. In Amboy, the American Legion family includes Tum Tum Post 168, Auxiliary Unit 168, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 168, and the American Legion Riders Chapter 168. Together, they work to provide assistance, camaraderie, and resources to those who have served.
This year’s community effort helped the 5th Annual Windhaven Ride for Veterans raise over $22,000. The funds support Lifeline Connections’ Windhaven program, which offers equine therapy to veterans coping with post‑traumatic stress disorder.
How to get involved
Anyone interested in supporting local veterans can join Auxiliary Unit 168, which meets the first Saturday of each month at 11:30 a.m. The next meeting coincides with the Nov. 7 celebration and takes place at Tum Tum Post 168, 21400 NE 399th St., Amboy. More information about volunteer opportunities, donation options, and upcoming events is available on the unit’s website at amboytumtumpost168.org.
Whether you choose to volunteer, lend a hand to a veteran’s family, or simply listen to a veteran’s story, the American Legion Auxiliary Tum Tum Unit 168 thanks you for helping honor those who served—both on Veterans Day and throughout the year.
