Cleveland’s comedy scene is getting a fresh boost as longtime friends Timothy Sweeney (known as “T‑Bone”) and David Bost (known as “Solo”) prepare to debut a live version of their wildly popular online series “Culture Swap.” The pair, who have amassed more than 4.5 million views across their videos, will perform at Hilarities 4th Street Theatre on Friday, Nov. 20.
From viral videos to a live stage
“Culture Swap” pairs the white comedian from Cleveland Heights with his Black friend from the St. Clair‑Superior neighborhood for outings that playfully flip racial stereotypes. Sweeney has taken Bost bird‑watching, horseback riding and a trip to Trader Joe’s, while Bost has introduced Sweeney to a classic cookout, a church service and a dice‑shooting game. Their fast‑paced banter and witty one‑liners have resonated with a broad audience, especially viewers aged 25‑40.
Both comedians say the series began as a simple idea. Sweeney recalled, “I’d been thinking about taking my Black friends to do white‑people stuff for months, but never acted on it. When we opened my notebook that day, I said, ‘Hey, let’s try this one.’” The concept took off after they first met at a Druski comedy talent show in 2024 and later reconnected at the Grog Shop.
Impact beyond the screen
The videos have not only generated millions of views but also tangible benefits for the creators. Bost notes that the exposure has allowed him to travel more and spend additional time with his family, while Sweeney was able to take a childhood friend, a NASCAR fan, to a race at Talladega at no cost. “We’re able to meet new people and have fun, and we get these crazy experiences that we would not have if it was not for what we do,” Sweeney said.
Beyond personal gains, the duo believes their work promotes understanding. “When people see us enjoying each other’s cultures, they see the impact we’re having,” Bost explained. “It’s awesome to see people come together and want to learn each other’s culture.” Their videos have even inspired viewers to try new activities, such as skydiving, after seeing the pair take on the challenge.
Live show promises more laughs
The upcoming “Culture Swap Live” show will feature audience‑participation games and never‑before‑seen footage from their video shoots. Tickets start at $30, and the comedians promise that the live experience will be even more “unhinged” than the online series. “If you think our videos are unhinged, just wait for the live show,” Sweeney warned with a grin.
Fans of the series include members of the military, who see the comedians’ friendship as reminiscent of the camaraderie found in service. “Like in the army, they chirp at each other, you know, they mess with each other and that kind of thing, and I think people just – they find it familiar and it’s like a breath of fresh air,” Sweeney said.
Looking ahead
While the live debut is a milestone, both comedians have bigger ambitions. Bost expressed a desire for nationwide, even worldwide, exposure, hoping to see their sketches on platforms like Netflix. The pair is also planning a broader tour, though dates have yet to be announced.
For Cleveland residents seeking a night of humor that celebrates cultural differences while reinforcing community bonds, “Culture Swap Live” offers a timely reminder that laughter can bridge divides.
