Kyle City Council District 4 Race Advances to Runoff Between Kaufman and Rocha

Kyle voters will head to the polls on Dec. 12 for a runoff election that determines who will fill the open District 4 seat on the Kyle City Council. Unofficial tallies from the Nov. 3 election show Leah Kaufman leading with 47.01% of the vote, while Kenneth Rocha earned 27.55%. Because no candidate reached the 50% threshold, the top two finishers will face off in the runoff.

Current vote totals

With all precincts reporting, the vote count stands at approximately 2,135 ballots for Kaufman. Spencer Copeland, who placed third with 25.44%, is eliminated from contention. Earlier updates on Nov. 3 showed Kaufman at 46.92% and Rocha at 27.59%, confirming a steady lead for Kaufman throughout the night.

Candidate backgrounds and priorities

Leah Kaufman, a seven‑year Kyle resident with a background in public policy, campaigned on fiscal responsibility, infrastructure improvements, and public‑safety enhancements. She told Community Impact that “investing wisely today can prevent much greater costs tomorrow,” emphasizing long‑term value for taxpayers.

Kenneth Rocha, a veteran of 20 years in public service, highlighted reliable water and utility services, safer roads, adequately resourced police, well‑maintained green spaces, and responsible budgeting as his core priorities. In a Facebook post, Rocha expressed gratitude to supporters, noting, “We may be the underdog, but our commitment has never been stronger.”

Spencer Copeland, a disaster‑recovery consultant who has served on three city boards and commissions, focused on managing future growth and using that growth to fund city services. Though eliminated, his campaign underscored the importance of community involvement, stating, “Democracy is a team event and I’m glad to see so many players in the field today.”

What’s at stake

The District 4 council seat has been open since former councilmember Lauralee Harris chose not to run for reelection. The winner will join the council for a three‑year term, shaping decisions on city budgeting, public‑works projects, and service delivery that affect everyday life in Kyle.

Runoff details

The Texas Secretary of State has set Dec. 12 as the runoff date for all local elections stemming from the Nov. 3 ballot. Kyle voters will also decide the mayoral runoff and the District 3 council race on the same day, making Dec. 12 a pivotal moment for the city’s leadership.

How to vote

Voters can cast their ballots at any of the 34 election locations that were open on Election Day. Early‑voting sites remain available through the runoff period, and absentee ballots can be requested through the Williamson County Clerk’s office. For the latest voting locations and hours, residents should visit the Williamson County Elections website.

Looking ahead

Community Impact will continue to update the race as official canvass results are certified. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in the Dec. 12 runoff to ensure their voices are heard at City Hall.
