Stanton County, Neb. – A tragic two‑vehicle crash early Tuesday morning resulted in one fatality and three serious injuries, according to the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. on a dirt road that climbs the crest of a hill.
What happened
Deputies determined that Kelsey Hake, 35, of Leigh, was traveling southbound in an SUV when she collided almost head‑on with a northbound sedan driven by 20‑year‑old Christina Brandl of Humphrey. The impact was severe enough that Brandl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Injured parties
Hake and her two daughters were riding unrestrained in the SUV. All three were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Their conditions remain critical, and family members are awaiting further updates from medical staff.
Investigation ongoing
The SCSO is conducting a full investigation into the crash. Officers are reviewing the road conditions, vehicle speeds, and any potential contributing factors such as weather or visibility. No arrests have been made at this time.
Community response
Local officials and community members have expressed condolences to the families affected by the tragedy. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Chief Deputy Mark Jensen urged drivers to always wear seat belts, especially on rural roads where conditions can change rapidly.
“This is a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of safety measures,” Jensen said. “We ask everyone traveling on our county’s roads to buckle up and drive cautiously, particularly on unpaved routes that can be hazardous during early morning hours.”
Road safety reminder
Stanton County’s Department of Transportation recommends that drivers reduce speed on dirt and gravel roads, especially on hill crests where visibility may be limited. The department also advises motorists to ensure all passengers are properly restrained, as unbuckled occupants are at greater risk of severe injury or death in a collision.
Residents who have information about the crash are encouraged to contact the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office at (402) 555‑1234.
