Tulsa woman arrested after police find 19 dead dogs and 24 living animals in home

Police and animal control officers responded to a cruelty investigation at a home near 12th and Memorial in Tulsa on Saturday. When they arrived, officers reported the smell of decay and the sight of insects, initially leading them to suspect a human fatality.

Discovery inside the home

Before forcing entry, the officers were greeted by Marcia Reynolds, who opened the door. Inside, they found deplorable conditions: the floor was covered in urine, feces, and trash, and 24 living animals were confined in metal crates. Among the crates were 19 dead dogs, their bodies discovered in various stages of decomposition.

Reynolds told investigators she lived in the house full‑time and did not have air conditioning, claiming the lack of cooling contributed to the animals’ deaths. She admitted she never reported the situation to authorities.

Legal action

Following the investigation, Reynolds was arrested and charged with 29 counts of animal cruelty. A bond of $580,000 was set for her release. The surviving animals have been transferred to nearby shelters and rescue groups, including Tulsa Animal Services and the Humane Society of Tulsa, where they will receive veterinary care and find new homes.

Community response

The discovery has sparked outrage among Tulsa residents and animal‑welfare advocates. Local volunteers are organizing donation drives to support the shelters caring for the rescued animals. Those who wish to assist can contact Tulsa Animal Services or the Humane Society of Tulsa for information on donations and foster opportunities.

Animal‑control officials emphasized the importance of community vigilance. They urged anyone who suspects neglect or abuse to report it promptly, noting that early intervention can prevent tragedies like this one.

What’s next?

The case will proceed through the Tulsa County court system, where Reynolds will face a trial on the animal‑cruelty charges. Prosecutors have indicated that the severity of the conditions and the number of deceased animals will be central to the case.

Authorities continue to investigate how long the conditions persisted and whether additional violations occurred. The Tulsa Police Department reminded the public that animal cruelty is a felony offense in Oklahoma, carrying significant penalties, including imprisonment and hefty fines.
