Early voting results released on Friday reveal which candidates are leading in Texarkana’s municipal and Miller County contests, giving residents an early view of the upcoming November 5 election.
According to the Texarkana Gazette, city voters cast 3,179 early ballots for mayoral candidate Tammy Waters, while her opponent Laney Harris received 1,361 early votes. In the county judge race, Lynn McDowell secured 4,638 early votes compared with Ulysses Brewer’s 2,077.
The city’s Board of Directors races also showed clear leads in the early count. In Ward 3, Jennifer Harland earned 396 early votes, outpacing Otha Williams Jr., who received 271. The three‑way contest for Ward 4 saw Natasha Crabbe in front with 265 early votes, followed by Clinton Brewster at 162 and T.J. Wall at 153.
For the Ward 5 seat, challenger Laura Nix led incumbent Danny Jewell, collecting 457 early votes to Jewell’s 322.
These figures are unofficial totals compiled from early‑voting sites across the city and Miller County. The early‑voting period concluded on Monday, and the Gazette notes that Election Day polls will close at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.
While the early numbers provide a snapshot of voter preferences, the final outcomes will be determined after all ballots are counted on Election Day. The Gazette’s report does not include any certified results, emphasizing that the totals are preliminary.
Residents who have not yet voted can still participate on Election Day, with polling locations remaining open until the 7:30 p.m. deadline. The early‑voting totals suggest that Waters and McDowell have a substantial lead, but the final vote count will confirm whether those leads hold.
What’s next: Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, November 5, to cast their ballots for mayor, county judge, and city board seats. Election officials will begin tallying all votes after polls close, with official results expected to be announced in the days following the election.
