Gov. Katie Hobbs wins second term, vows to serve all Arizonans

PHOENIX — Governor Katie Hobbs celebrated her re‑election Wednesday at a rally in the Carpenters Local 1912 Hall near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road. Surrounded by her running mate, former Mesa mayor John Giles, and hundreds of supporters, Hobbs declared that Arizonans chose “sanity over chaos” and gave the state a Democratic majority in both chambers of the Legislature for the first time in six decades.

Election results and Trump endorsement

CBS News projected Hobbs as the winner after she defeated Republican challenger Rep. Andy Biggs, who carried former President Trump’s endorsement and promoted claims about the 2020 presidential election. Hobbs’ victory marks a clear signal from voters that they prefer leaders who answer to Arizona rather than to Washington.

Policy priorities for the next four years

In her remarks, Hobbs outlined the top concerns she will address: the rising cost of groceries, housing affordability, gas prices and prescription drug expenses. “I will work just as hard for you as for anyone who voted for me,” she said, emphasizing a commitment to serve every Arizonan regardless of party affiliation.

New lieutenant governor role

John Giles, projected to become Arizona’s first lieutenant governor, explained the responsibilities of the newly created office, which will replace the secretary of state as the line of succession. Giles joked about the lack of a handbook, noting that there is “no predecessor to call for advice,” but added that the fresh perspective could be an advantage.

Bipartisan cooperation

Giles, a former Republican, pledged to work with both parties on issues that affect families: protecting water resources, building affordable homes, keeping rural hospitals open and preparing youth for good‑paying jobs. He praised Republicans and independents who crossed party lines, saying, “Putting Arizona first is always worth it.”

Legislative outlook

With Democrats poised to control the state Legislature, Hobbs warned that any attempts to “obstruct and chase Washington’s agenda” will be met with the will of the voters. She recalled her previous promise to get to work and reaffirmed her dedication to moving Arizona forward.

Biggs’ response

Rep. Biggs had not yet conceded, stating his campaign would wait for a full ballot count before making a final statement. He thanked his supporters in a social‑media post.

The Hobbs‑Giles ticket’s victory underscores a shift in Arizona politics, reflecting voter desire for pragmatic solutions to everyday challenges while maintaining a commitment to family values and individual liberty.
