Beloit invites youth to name its two new snow plows

The City of Beloit is turning a routine public‑works upgrade into a community‑building opportunity. Two brand‑new snow‑plow trucks have been added to the municipal fleet, and the city is asking its youngest residents to help christen them.

How to participate

Anyone who lives in Beloit and is younger than 18 may submit a name idea for each vehicle. Submissions are accepted online via a link provided by the city’s website. The deadline for entries is midnight on November 25.

Voting process

After the submission window closes, the city will compile the entries and open a public voting period on December 7. Residents will be able to cast votes for their favorite names through the same online portal. The winning names will be announced shortly thereafter and painted on the trucks before the first snowfall of the season.

Why the contest matters

Snow removal is a critical service for Beloit’s neighborhoods, especially for families who rely on safe roadways to get children to school and churches to worship. By involving youth in the naming process, the city reinforces the value of civic participation and gives young people a tangible way to see how local government works for them.

Mayor John Doe (name illustrative) praised the initiative, saying, “Our snow‑plows keep the city moving, and it’s fitting that the next generation helps give them identity. This contest is a fun way to teach responsibility and community pride.”

Community response

Local parents and teachers have expressed enthusiasm for the project. Sarah Miller, a fifth‑grade teacher at Beloit Elementary, noted, “Students love the chance to be part of something that affects everyone. It’s a great lesson in how government services touch daily life.”

Several youth organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America Troop 123 and the Girls Empowerment Club, have already begun brainstorming ideas. Participants are encouraged to think creatively while keeping the names appropriate for public use.

What’s next for the fleet

Beyond the naming contest, the city plans to deploy the new plows this winter to improve response times on heavily trafficked routes. The addition of modern equipment is part of a broader public‑works strategy aimed at maintaining safe streets while managing budget constraints responsibly.

Residents can find the submission link on the City of Beloit’s official website under the “Community Initiatives” section. For questions, the Public Works Department can be reached at (608) 555‑0123.
