Greenville County Election Results: Local Sales Tax Rejected, Races Decided

Greenville County voters went to the polls on Nov. 3 and delivered clear outcomes on both policy and representation. The county’s proposed one‑cent local sales tax, intended to fund roads, infrastructure, green space and other public‑use projects, was rejected, while all four surrounding municipalities – Greenville, Mauldin, Simpsonville and Travelers Rest – saw their own tax proposals pass.

Local sales tax referendum

The county‑wide referendum asked voters to approve a one‑cent sales tax that would have been added to the existing state sales tax. The measure was defeated, reflecting a cautious approach by residents toward new taxes despite the promise of improvements to transportation and public spaces. In contrast, the same question on the ballots of the four cities within the county received enough support to move forward, indicating that voters are comfortable with targeted, municipal‑level funding.

Uncontested races

Several races on the Greenville County ballot were uncontested, resulting in automatic victories for the listed candidates:

  • Chandra Dillard (Democrat) – State House District 23
  • Wendell Jones (Democrat) – State House District 25
  • Cindy Crick (Republican) – Solicitor Circuit 13
  • Chadwicke L. Groover (Republican) – Greenville County Probate Judge
  • Scott Case (Republican) – Greenville County Auditor
  • Allen Hodges (Republican) – Greenville County Treasurer
  • Joe Dill (Republican) – Greenville County Council District 17
  • David C. Mitchell (Democrat) – Greenville County Council District 23
  • Daniel Rumfelt (Republican) – Greenville County Council District 26
  • Anne M. Pressley – Greenville County School Board District 24
  • Jeff Cochran – Greenville County School Board District 28

These uncontested seats underscore the strong community support for incumbents and party nominees who have already earned the confidence of their constituents.

Key contested races

While many positions were filled without opposition, the election also featured competitive contests for other county offices. Voter turnout for the county’s ballot measures was recorded at 210,227 votes for Question 1 and 208,332 votes for Question 2, reflecting robust participation in local governance.

Overall, the results demonstrate Greenville County’s commitment to careful fiscal stewardship while still endorsing municipal initiatives that promise tangible improvements to daily life. Residents have spoken clearly: they favor targeted, city‑level investments over a broader county‑wide tax increase.

Looking ahead

County officials will now focus on implementing the outcomes of the vote. The rejected county tax means that future infrastructure projects will need to be funded through existing budgets or alternative financing methods. Meanwhile, the newly confirmed officials will assume their duties in the coming weeks, ready to serve the community and uphold the values that residents expect from their local government.
