Bonrue Bakery, the beloved Southern Utah bakery known for flaky croissants and its signature kouign‑amann, opened its first northern Utah storefront on the corner of University Avenue near Brigham Young University and LaVell Edwards Stadium. The new Provo shop offers the same European‑inspired pastries, tarts, pies, sandwiches and salads that have earned the bakery a loyal following in St. George.
Local customers welcome the new spot
“I was pleasantly surprised about how good all the treats were,” said Provo resident Tate Broesder after sampling the bakery’s offerings. The response mirrors the long‑standing demand from Southern Utah patrons who have been urging Bonrue to expand northward.
Founder’s vision for consistency and community
Co‑founder Chris Connors explained that the decision to open in Provo was driven by repeated requests from customers across the region. “Maybe one in every three or four people coming in was saying, you know where you should go? You should go up to Provo, you should go to Orem, you should go to Spanish Fork,” Connors said. “And now it’s become a reality.”
Connors emphasized that consistency remains the bakery’s top priority. “Our biggest thing is consistency, so you will taste the same exact thing in St. George as you do in Provo,” he noted. The bakery’s display case, which the team affectionately calls its “jewelry case,” showcases the pastries in a way that highlights their craftsmanship.
Looking ahead to Orem and Spanish Fork
Bonrue’s expansion plan includes two additional grand openings later this year. The Orem location is scheduled to open on Saturday, November 7, while the Spanish Fork shop will welcome customers on December 5. Both events will feature giveaways, special promotions and community‑focused activities.
Connors said the bakery hopes to become a daily fixture for northern Utah residents. “We want to be a piece of everyone’s neighborhood, and in their routine, their daily routine,” he said. The bakery’s commitment to quality and consistency aims to build the same loyal customer base that often sees lines out the door in Southern Utah.
Why this matters for the local economy
The new locations create jobs for the Provo, Orem and Spanish Fork communities and add a family‑friendly dining option to the Wasatch Front. By bringing a successful Southern Utah brand to the north, Bonrue Bakery contributes to the region’s growing small‑business landscape and offers residents more choices for breakfast, lunch and dessert.
