Henderson Police Department announced Tuesday that 51‑year‑old Troy Young was taken into custody following a shoplifting incident at J’s Liquor and Wine on South Green Street and a subsequent threat to shoot law‑enforcement officers.
Shoplifting video leads to arrest
According to a department press release, officers responded to a report of shoplifting at the liquor store. The owner provided surveillance footage showing Young removing three bottles of liquor and exiting the premises. Police identified the suspect from prior encounters and noted that he was subject to a parole warrant.
Threatening remarks and police response
Investigators located Young in a locked bedroom at a residence on Holloway Street. While inside, he allegedly told officers he would shoot anyone who entered the home and later contacted dispatch, reiterating his intent to fire on police if they attempted entry.
Emergency crews were dispatched, and officers surrounded the property. After a period of negotiation, Young exited the residence and attempted to flee on foot. Officers pursued and apprehended him without further incident.
Charges filed
Young was transported to the Henderson County Detention Center and charged with shoplifting, terroristic threatening, fleeing or evading police, criminal mischief, and the outstanding parole warrant. The department emphasized that the swift response and cooperation among dispatch, emergency services, and patrol officers helped resolve the situation safely.
Department statement
Henderson Police Chief John Smith praised the professionalism of his officers, stating, “Our team acted decisively to protect the community and uphold the law. Threats against law‑enforcement will not be tolerated, and we will continue to enforce the law with resolve and respect for all citizens.”
The department encourages residents to report suspicious activity and reminds the public that threatening violence against police is a serious crime that carries significant penalties.
