Subaru Recalls Nearly 70,000 Vehicles Due to Moonroof Issue

Subaru has announced a recall affecting 69,663 vehicles, specifically the 2026 Subaru Forester and the 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid models. This recall is due to a potential issue with the moonroof assembly, which could lead to the moonroof glass detaching while the vehicle is in motion.

Details of the Recall

The recall notice, published on May 28 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, highlights that the affected vehicles may have been manufactured without the proper application of primer necessary for securing the moonroof glass panel to the sliding frame. This manufacturing oversight could result in the glass panel becoming detached, posing a risk of injury or even a crash.

The recall affects 65,656 Subaru Foresters produced between June 19, 2025, and March 13, 2026, and 4,007 Forester Hybrid models produced from February 20 to March 17, 2026. Subaru identified the affected vehicles using production records and has stated that vehicles not included in the recall have properly installed moonroof glass panels.

Discovery and Response

The issue came to light on February 26 when Subaru received a report of a moonroof glass panel detaching from a vehicle. Following this, Subaru initiated an investigation and discovered at least three instances of such detachment in the U.S. market between February 26 and March 25. Fortunately, there have been no reported crashes or injuries related to this issue.

As a remedy, Subaru dealers will inspect the moonroof glass panel for proper adhesion and replace it if necessary, free of charge. The company plans to send notification letters to vehicle owners starting July 24. For more information, owners can contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614, and the recall number is WRF-26. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall have been searchable on the NHTSA website since May 29.
