Toledo mother reports road‑rage incident involving local business owner and her three sons

TOLEDO, Ohio – A Toledo mother, who uses the social‑media name Chase Lane, alleges that a local business owner in a pickup truck engaged in a road‑rage episode that put her three sons in danger. Lane, who asked that her real name not be used for safety reasons, said the incident began at a train crossing on Oakdale near White Street.

Sequence of events

According to Lane, the business owner’s pickup was stopped at the crossing while a train passed. She says she attempted to turn onto White Street by driving around the stopped truck and its trailer, rather than waiting for the crossing gates to clear. “The guy in the pickup truck was stopped right at White Street. He was waiting for that train. So I went around him,” Lane told reporters.

Lane claims that as she maneuvered around the truck, the driver accelerated and attempted to make contact with her vehicle. “As the time I was coming around him is when he tried to take off and hit me,” she said.

She says the driver continued to follow her down the street, revving his engine close to the rear of her car. “He was like revving his engine to get really close to the back end of my car,” Lane recalled. She recorded the encounter on her phone, holding the device out the window to capture any impact.

Interaction at the stop sign

When Lane stopped at a stop sign, the driver parked his truck and approached her vehicle on foot. Lane rolled up her windows but kept recording. She could not initially make out what the man was saying, but says he shouted after noticing the phone recording. Lane then drove away, taking her older son to the front seat and the two younger children to the back.

“My first thought he was going to hurt me in front of my kids,” Lane said. Her sons are 10, 5 and 1 years old. She says she remained calm for their sake.

Police response

Lane reported the incident to the Toledo Police Department. Officers told her that, because the driver did not issue a direct threat, there was limited action they could take at that time. No charges have been filed.

13 Action News attempted to contact the driver using the phone number displayed on the truck in the video, but the number was disconnected. An email was also sent with no response.

Mother’s call for help

Lane expressed concern for the driver’s family, noting that he has children who need a present father. “He needs to be there 100% for them. And him acting like that is going to make it to where he’s not going to be able to,” she said, adding that she hopes he receives the help he needs.

She also warned that while she was able to drive away this time, similar incidents could have different outcomes. Lane’s account highlights the risks that road‑rage confrontations pose to families and the challenges law enforcement faces when threats are not overt.

Community context

Road‑safety advocates in Toledo have long urged drivers to exercise patience at train crossings and to avoid confrontations that could endanger passengers, especially children. The incident underscores the importance of calm, courteous driving and the need for clear communication when traffic is halted for safety reasons.

Local officials have not yet commented on the specific case, but the Toledo Police Department continues to encourage residents to report any aggressive driving behavior and to provide video evidence when safe to do so.
