Argyle Independent School District is moving forward with staffing plans for its upcoming Legacy High School, slated to open in August 2027. Superintendent Dr. Courtney Carpenter told the community Tuesday that the district is now interviewing candidates for the inaugural principal position.
Principal selection process
Carpenter said a recommendation on the first principal will be presented to the Argyle ISD Board of Trustees at their meeting on Monday, Nov. 16. The board’s decision will set the tone for the school’s leadership as construction progresses toward the fall 2027 opening.
Superintendent transition
In the same announcement, Dr. Carpenter disclosed that she is the lone finalist for the superintendent vacancy at Glen Rose ISD and will therefore depart Argyle ISD at the conclusion of the fall semester. “I have enjoyed reading firsthand accounts from our AMS RedHawk families and the excitement building up to the opening of Legacy High School,” Carpenter said. “As I continue to lead and support Argyle ISD through the end of the fall semester, our direction remains clear – our priorities remain firmly in place, and our commitment to students has not changed.”
Staffing beyond the principal
Following the principal recommendation, the district will begin recruiting for athletics and fine‑arts leadership roles. “These positions are vital to beginning the full staffing process when next semester begins,” Carpenter added, emphasizing the importance of a complete team to support the new campus.
Community response and recent challenges
The decision to open a new high school has drawn criticism from some community members, particularly regarding land acquisitions and the timing of the project. Additionally, a recent board meeting turned contentious when a trustee abruptly resigned after questioning district leadership.
Despite these hurdles, the district remains focused on meeting the needs of a rapidly growing student population. Argyle ISD has experienced significant enrollment increases, prompting the need for additional capacity and modern facilities.
